The band "Mumiy Troll" is one of the notable phenomena in the history of Russian music. The band that coined the term "rockapops" changed the way Russian-language rock sounds at the turn of the millennium. The creator and leader of the band, Ilya Lagutenko— managed to combine elements of britpop, hooligan poetry and a recognizable vocal style in one project.

Ilya Lagutenko was born on October 16, 1968 in Moscow. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Vladivostok, where the future musician spent his childhood and youth. During his school years, Lagutenko sang in a children's choir, and in 1983 he founded the rock band Mumiy Troll. At the same time, Ilya entered the Far Eastern State University and graduated with a degree in regional studies.

Throughout the eighties and early nineties, "Mumiy Troll" recorded magnetic albums and performed at Far Eastern venues, remaining virtually unknown outside the region. Everything changed in 1997, when the album "Morskaya" was recorded in England. In the same year, the album "Caviar" was released. The song "Leak" was included in the list of "40 songs that changed the world" according to the Russian-language Rolling Stone, and "Mummy Troll" became widely known in Russia.

This was followed by the records "Like Mercury Aloe" (2000), "Meamura" (2002), "Merger and Acquisition" (2005). Each new album continued the development of the band's sound. In 2009, the album "8" won the Steppenwolf Award in the Disc category. In 2012, the English-language album Vladivostok was released, and in 2020, the thirteenth studio album "After Evil" was released.

Among the famous songs of the band "Mumiy Troll" are "Flow away", "Vladivostok 2000", "Bride", "It's for love", "Dolphins", "It's necessary", "Happy New Year, Baby!", "Carnival. No", "Fiction", "The Bear". The band's music was used in famous movies: "Night Watch", "Day Watch", "Peter FM", "Radio Day".

In addition to music, Ilya Lagutenko is known as a writer and an active participant in environmental projects. Together with Vasily Avchenko, he is the co-author of the book "Vladivostok-3000". Lagutenko also participated in environmental projects dedicated to the protection of the Amur tiger.
